The Stag - Page 1 process

I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up with posting.  Like I said in my last post, I'm really busy with my final project of the year.  I'm pretty excited about it.  I figured I might as well show you the first page and some of the process.  I won't get into the story just yet (I'll probably wait until I can post the whole thing, and let you read it for yourselves).

I start with thumbnails where I really figure out composition and panel structure.  I don't have that scanned, but I'll show some thumbnails in another post.  From there, I move on to PENCILS:
The pencils are drawn to size so I can light-box those directly onto heavier paper for the INKS:
Then I'm throw in a step with doing a layer with a China Marker (which is much like a black crayon).  I take this layer and digitally convert the blacks into gray.  That's the DIGITAL phase:
For this page I actually did 2 layers in this manner... One for the sky and one for the foreground shades.  I also converted the background inked trees into a gray (as you can see).

Anyway.  I'm always envious of peoples blog posts who are very clever with jokes and the like, but that doesn't come all that naturally to me... So this is what you get.  Hope you enjoyed!
